About – Acerca de – Über
My name is Christian, and I’m the founder of aleman sin licencia – German without a license. The idea for this project came to me after several years of experience as a German teacher. Lessons are expensive because, when you factor in preparation and follow-up work, you end up paying for more than just one hour of the teacher’s working time. Often, lessons are organized by agencies or academies, which charge an additional commission on top of the cost, driving the price even higher. As a result, courses are often subsidized or fully paid by governments or companies, making them difficult for private individuals to afford.
The idea and the goal
Since I’ve always enjoyed being independent and doing as much as possible on my own, I started creating my own video courses. The idea: to offer people an affordable way to learn German on their own, with the option to supplement their studies with occasional live lessons if needed.
No commission and a well-known teacher
Aleman sin licencia – German without licence sets itself apart from agencies and academies. A commission results in a loss for all parties involved – the teachers and the students/clients. Students/clients have to pay more but receive poorer service, since the teacher earns less due to the commission loss and is forced to teach more classes. On this site, you’ll never pay a commission. You also won’t be surprised by some teacher you don’t know. There’s only one teacher – me.
Everything in one place
You won’t have to deal with any customer service department or chatbot if you ever have a problem or a question. You’ll be in direct contact with me. Whether you have a question about the course material, a technical issue with the website, would like a special offer for group lessons, or want to learn more about how the video courses and live lessons work in a personal conversation—you’ll always be in contact with the person directly responsible, namely me, and won’t be passed from one person to the next.
My background
I was born in Germany, grew up there, and also attended university there. While I was still a student, I moved to Spain and began working as a German teacher. I now live in South America.
I work with groups and individual students from all over the world (e.g., Europe, South and Central America, Asia, etc.) and have extensive experience working with Spanish-speaking students in particular. I conduct online classes in various formats and at various levels. Most of these are group courses for up to 20 people. In these cases, I typically guide the groups from A0 to B2. Occasionally, however, I also provide one-on-one lessons at all levels (A1–C1) for international professionals at multinational companies or private individuals. I also frequently prepare international professionals for their work in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as part of various projects. In this context, I offer industry-specific language courses (e.g., nursing, physical therapy, transportation, IT, education, etc.) to best prepare my students for their new jobs. In this context, I have already collaborated with companies and professionals from all over the world.
In some cases, I also offer exam-specific crash courses (e.g., Goethe, Telc, Telc B1/B2 Pflege, etc.) or give lectures. I also have extensive experience in developing materials and creating exams for all levels.
In addition, I have taught several in-person group courses for up to 15 people organized by the Spanish Employment Agency (A1, A2, and C1). These were intensive courses totaling 690 hours (6 or 8 hours per day) for native Spanish speakers. All courses concluded with an exam administered by the Goethe-Institut.
In addition to German, I speak English and Spanish fluently and also teach in both languages. Furthermore, I speak French at a basic level.
The name
As you can see, I have gained extensive experience and independently acquired a broad range of knowledge. However, I do not hold a degree or certificate in linguistics. I studied other subjects. I believe that this is not a reliable indicator of a teacher’s quality. My clients are my certificate. Client demand automatically reflects a teacher’s quality, not a piece of paper confirming attendance at courses. This is how the name aleman sin licencia – German without a license — came about. Here you can find homemade German.
